TO CHRISTIANS CONCERNING UNFORGIVENESS IN THE CHURCH

Unforgiveness is like drinking a cup of poison believing it will kill the other person.  “Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.” Luke 6:37

God hates unforgiveness. This most commonly committed sin also comes in the form of bitterness, anger, hurt, resentfulness, hatred, grudges, Which of these are you holding on to? Unforgiveness is a self-induced cancer that slowly eats away at the person who is living with it. When you embrace it, it robs you of your peace and your holiness. It places a barrier between you and God which blocks your prayers and blessings. And ultimately, it will rob you of your salvation.

Do you remember the king from Jesus’ parable in Matthew 18:21-35 that forgave an extremely large debt that belonged to a servant that would never have been able to pay it off. Later, that same servant refused to forgive another man a debt that was owed to him. When the king heard of this, he became so angry that he called him a wicked servant and rescinded his forgiveness of the debt that he had formerly extended and the servant was given over to the jailers. Jesus tells us that this is how the Father will respond to us when we, likewise, choose to not forgive others.

When we can truly appreciate the depths of sacrifice Jesus had to go through to extend the gift of forgiveness to us, we should consider it a privilege and an honor for us to extend that same gift to others while also being blessed in the process.

In this evil world full of fallible people, it is almost impossible to get through a day without being hurt or offended by someone. Likewise, it is highly probable that others are being hurt and offended by you. It is a pretty accurate statement to say that you will never have to forgive anyone more than God has already forgiven you. So, when others hurt you, use you, abuse you and take advantage of you, what’s a child of God to do? It’s very simple. Obey God and forgive.

This message is for those who have eyes to see and ears to hear.

POEM: SIN & FORGIVENESS

My light is taken over and the darkness covers all.

Swollen clouds are hovering as the drops begin to fall.

Dismal skies bring somber eyes and the fullness brings the rain

As sorrows, through a hazy view, stream down my window pane.

The rhythm of my heartbeat meets my heavy soul’s release.

A silent storm is raging and it’s pain begins to feast.

Thunder is my anger and it’s lightning strikes my mind.

A binding wind is blowing cold for I’ve failed the test of time.

Yet, Your canopy extends to me against an air so bleak.

Your branches touch my weary soul and nudge me on to seek.

In a clearing, I see shelter with a Light that shines within.

Amidst the pour, You’re the open door that forgives me of my sin.
